Oscar de la Renta’s new Scent

Launching in September, Oscar de la Renta’s new line of women fragrances will be making its premier.  
The scents are based off of his memories of his most loved people, places, and things.  With the six new scents being released De La Renta says, “We don’t change the way we look on a daily basis, but we may want to change the way we smell.”

Over the past few centuries, equal rights for women, as been an ongoing issue that has been only improving with time.  In todays modern society women are treated with equal respect to men and are proving themselves time and time again… it was this attitude that lead Oscar to producing this line.

“A woman now wants to represent herself in many different ways, at different times. There is a world that is wide open to women, with a lot of choices. I no longer think a woman is married to one fragrance.”Del la Renta said.
Let us break down the six fragrances:

Santo Domingo: tabac-based scent that was inspired from Oscar’s birthplace inside of the Dominican Republic.  The fragrance is renown already for its citrus notes with various hints of spicy mandarin, patchouli, and tobacco.

Granada: inspired by the gardens of Alhambra in Spain is as romantic as it is floral.  Having major notes of bigarade and beramont with flairs of jasmine, orange, and rose this is no simple sent.  When asked about this specific fragrance de la Renta said “It’s a magical place that has great romantic memories for me.”

Oriental Lace: dark, mysterious, chocolate vine, and hoya carnosa; this fragrance refers to the plants that de la Renta use to grow in Punta Cana; including dark cacao and bitter almond.

Mi Corazon: the name says it all – based off of his heart, his daughter Eliza Bolen (currently the creative director of licensing of the company) and their shared love for the floral juice ylang ylang.  The scent is that of peach and tuberose, making the nostrils long for another sent.

Sargasso: was named after the blue-green sea that surrounds de la Rentas beachside home in Punta Cana.  The fragrance consists of juniper, lemon, and cucumber notes trying to imitate the scent of marine vegetation scattered along the beach.  (Rumor has it that it will be the basis for an up and coming skin care line).

Coralina: perfect for the perfect lady.  It is based off the coral-colored stone that has its home inside of the Dominican Republic used in his various boutiques. The scent has strong notes of Violet, mimosa, orris, and woody green.

For retail all of the scents will be sold separately for $150 each containing 3.4-0z. of de la Renta’s memories.  The scents will be released on September 6th for Fashion Night Out.

“We think color is a natural — Oscar is so known for his use of color. I expect that for the runway in September that we will have more shades, as well as some lip shades. The great thing about the digital world is that it does allow for some experimentation, if one is not afraid to have something not work out. I think that a full color cosmetics line is complicated, but the idea of lip and nail is tremendously appealing. It’s a competitive world, but it seems to us a logical fit for our brand.” – Eliza Bolen
